How to get a Hearing Aid Voucher

Step 1: Check your eligibility for a hearing services voucher

As a pensioner you may be eligible for Hearing Aids and assistance through the Commonwealth Hearing Services program. Eligible people can obtain free hearing services through a voucher system provided through the Office of Hearing Services. To be eligible you must (have or be) the following:

  • hold either a Pensioner Concession Card,
  • a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Gold Repatriation Health Card, or
  • a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) White card issued for Hearing Loss, or
  • be in receipt of a sickness allowance, or
  • be an eligible dependant of one of these cardholders

Step 2: Understand your entitlements under the voucher system

The voucher entitles you to obtain the following free of charge:

  • a free hearing assessment
  • a free Hearing Aid/s (Note: You can ‘top up’ the value of your voucher to get Hearing Aids with additional features)
  • selection and fitting of ‘free’ hearing aids and hearing rehabilitation. In addition you may obtain
  • free maintenance of your Hearing Aid/s, and
  • a regular supply of batteries on payment of an annual service fee (more information will be provided by your hearing service provider).

Step 3: Find out where to get a hearing services voucher

There are a number of ways you can get a hearing services voucher application form:

  • drop in to your local Hearing Aid Centre and ask for a voucher application, or
  • ask Your doctor for a hearing services voucher application form
  • visit the Department of Health and Aging website

Step 4: Filling out the hearing services voucher

Prior to sending in the form for approval you will need to get your local doctor to sign the form. When your application is approved, you will receive the following:

  • a Hearing Services Provider directory list
  • a voucher that is to be used to redeem your hearing device
