Custom hearing aids are so named because the physical shape of the device is custom made to the shape of your ear. Custom hearing aids come in various sizes. With ear anatomy being the biggest determinate as to how discreet the custom hearing aid can be. The smaller your ear canal the less hearing aid will fit and more of the device will be placed into the external ear which can increase the profile of the device.
The smallest custom hearing aid is the Invisible-In-Canal (IIC), this style of hearing aid is very discreet as it sits down in the ear canal. This style prioritises size over hearing aid features such as Bluetooth and rechargeability.
The larger custom hearing aid styles include the Completely-In-Canal (CIC), In-The-Canal (ITC) and In-The-Ear (ITE) styles. These styles are physically larger than the IIC but they can include additional features. These include rechargeability and Bluetooth, which can increase ease of management and connectivity. As well a host of hearing aid features which require the hearing aids to wirelessly communicate with one another, an example of which would be an advanced noise management feature.
