  • 2. Understand your entitlements under the voucher system
  • 3. Find out where to get a hearing services voucher
  • 4. Completing the paperwork
  • 5. Find a Hearing Service Provider

Step 1: Check your eligibility for a hearing services voucher

As a pensioner you may be eligible for Hearing Aids and assistance through the Commonwealth Hearing Services program. Eligible people can obtain free hearing services through a voucher system provided through the Office of Hearing Services. To be eligible you must (have or be) the following:

  • a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Gold Repatriation Health Card, or
  • a Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) White card issued for Hearing Loss, or
  • be in receipt of a sickness allowance, or
  • be an eligible dependant of one of these cardholders

Step 2: Understand your entitlements under the voucher system

The voucher entitles you to obtain the following free of charge:

  • a free hearing assessment
  • a free Hearing Aid/s (Note: You can ‘top up’ the value of your voucher to get Hearing Aids with additional features)
  • selection and fitting of ‘free’ hearing aids and hearing rehabilitation. In addition you may obtain
  • free maintenance of your Hearing Aid/s, and
  • a regular supply of batteries on payment of an annual service fee (more information will be provided by your hearing service provider).

Step 3: Find out where to get a hearing services voucher

There are a number of ways you can get a hearing services voucher application form:

  • drop in to your local Hearing Aid Centre and ask for a voucher application, or
  • ask Your doctor for a hearing services voucher application form
